TIER Programme

Launched on 1st August, the TIER (Technology Innovation Enterprise Accelerator) Programme is Uganda’s arena for engineering brilliance. The first cohort brought together over 75 young professionals for an intensive 8-week immersion at the Smart Manufacturing Centre in Rwebiteete, with plans to grow participation in future cycles. The programme is supported through collaborations with 8 academic institutions, including Makerere University, Kyambogo University, and Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), to mention a few.

Factory Machine Learning Model
Hands-on experience

Working in a multidisciplinary environment through the Factory Machine Learning Model, participants dismantled and reassembled machines, built prototypes, tested designs, and pushed their creativity to the limit across mechanical, electrical, civil, and agricultural engineering. TIER is where ideas become action, producing tangible solutions with real-world impact and shaping a generation of engineers and innovators already designing, building, and driving Uganda’s technological future. Through this initiative, engineers gained hands-on experience in Dye, Mold, and Tool (DMT), enabling the local production of various machine components and reducing reliance on imports- a major step toward Uganda’s industrial self-sufficiency.

Beyond the machines and prototypes, TIER is cultivating a mindset of possibility by inspiring a generation to imagine boldly, innovate relentlessly, and prove that Uganda’s future in engineering, industry, and technological leadership will be built by its own people. It is a stage where ingenuity takes flight, ambition meets capability, and the country’s industrial and technological future is being forged, one visionary engineer at a time.
