Innovation at the Smart Manufacturing Centre begins with ideation, and with civil works now 99% complete, the facility is poised to scale production. Every concept is carefully designed to be manufacturable and to meet real world needs. From these designs, precision tooling and machining turn those raw ideas into tangible tools and components, laying the groundwork for Uganda to reduce reliance on imported technology. These components come together through welding and fabrication, forming durable and functional products that can be applied across industries. For agriculture, the backbone of our nation, this means production of mechanized tools, spare parts, and equipment that help farmers work smarter and faster, boosting productivity and livelihoods
The centre’s foundry supports this entire production and/or manufacturing cycle by supplying quality raw materials and cast components, ensuring that production never slows down. The manufacturing centre goes beyond machinery by investing in human capacity, retooling engineering professionals and technicians to operate, maintain, and improve these systems sustainably. Plant maintenance ensures every machine runs efficiently, safely, and reliably, keeping the cycle of innovation. Together, these interconnected capabilities from design and production to capacity development and support position the Smart Manufacturing Centre as a cradle for Uganda’s industrial growth, strengthening supply chains, driving import substitution, and nurturing homegrown solutions that can transform the nation.
